What ab work do you do on a weekly basis?Honestly,
I don't do a ton of traditional ab work. Rather, I incorporate my abdominal
muscles into every exercise that I perform. I hold my abs tight whether I'm
working out on an elliptical machine, or doing a bicep curl. I like to
incorporate a lot of stability work into my training which keeps my
entire core strong! Keeping my diet clean and getting plenty of cardio
are the true keys to keeping my six pack visible!
How much
cardio do you do?
I do cardio 6 mornings a week on a regular basis. Usually between 30-45
minutes sessions prior to eating breakfast. It's the best way to start the
day! I mix up my workouts
between a morning hike, elliptical trainer, stair-master, bike, or
plyometric workout.
What
would be a typical days diet for you?
I eat clean year round, 5-6 meals per day. Each small meal is a mix of
protein and carbohydrates. I love oatmeal so my breakfast is typically
oatmeal with egg whites and chocolate protein powder. I eat a lot of
chicken, turkey and fish, for dinner I always eat a giant plate of veggies
which I cook in a skillet along with 4-5 ounces of my protein of choice
(again usually chicken or turkey) I love this combination and look forward
to it everyday!

What would you say is the key to keeping in great
shape?
Creating healthy eating and exercise habits and maintaining them. It's not
about a quick fix, it's about doing what's right for your body and doing it
consistently.
Your
top five tips for getting abs?
In my opinion there are two! Everyone, absolutely everyone has six pack
abs.. for most people they are simply hidden under a layer (or layers!) of
fat. The only way to see your abs is to reduce your body-fat. The most
effective ways to do this are by eating a clean healthy diet, and getting
plenty of cardiovascular exercise. You can do crunches all day everyday and
you will never see your abs if you aren't eating right! Doing abdominal work
is a good idea for keeping your core strong but that is not what will make
your sexy six pack show through.
What kind
of weights routine do you follow?
I prefer working one body part per day. I do a six day split, I focus on one
muscle group
and usually perform 3-4 sets of 3-4 different exercises for that one muscle
group. Basically completely fatiguing it out. It looks something like this:
Sunday -
Legs, Monday - Shoulders, Tuesday - Chest/Abs, Wednesday - Rest, Thursday -
Back, Friday - Triceps, Saturday - Biceps... and then repeat!
Like I
mentioned earlier, I incorporate a lot of stability training into every
exercise that I perform, which may mean standing on a dyna disc, or standing
on one foot. I focus on maintaining a muscle contraction throughout the
entire exercise movement and I am a firm believe in the power of the
mind/muscle connection!
Any other
advice or tips?
Clean diet and healthy exercise... there you have it! The keys to success!
Remember that a clean diet is 80% of the battle when it comes to seeing your
abs of steel. Getting plenty of cardio and strength training to develop a
strong, healthy and toned body are also essential pieces to the puzzle! I
recently founded my own business Destined 2 Be Fit, I have my own fitness
DVD and I run an online fitness support center. My goal is to educate and
