What is
your diet like?
I have recently started to practice intermittent fasting for contest prep
and continue to use it throughout the year as my lifestyle. In a nutshell, I
eat in an 8 hour window each day and fast (eat nothing but drink
water/coffee for the other 16 hours). Based on my work and training schedule
I usually eat between 11:30am -7:30pm. I find this method of eating to be
not only more effective for me physically, but it’s also more satisfying to
eat 2-3 bigger meals as opposed to 7-8 meals per day.
Typical Day:
Meal 1 Pre-Workout
2 Scoops Prolab Whey Protein
30-60g carbs
10-20g fats
Prolab Beta Alanine, Creatine, Glutamine
2 shoots espresso or Prolab Rapid Fire
Meal 2 Post Workout
1.5 Scoops Prolab Whey Protein
.5 grams Casein protein
Prolab BCAA Plus, Creatine, Glutamine
30-60g Dextrose Carbs
Meal 3
Protein 50-100g – a mix of usually chicken, eggs, fish
Carbs pending on day and time of year 50-150 carbs – a mix of Ezekiel
products, oats, fruits, veggies
Fats: 20-60 grams from – eggs, nut butters, coconut oil
Meal 4
Protein: Usually some lean protein 20-50g chicken, fish, eggs, or a shake
Carbs – green veggies -asparagus is one of my main staples
Fats- usually cooking with coconut oil
Strength Training Plan
This varies throughout the year, as I am always learning new things and
implementing them into my training regimen - but the most basic layout would
be -
Monday: Legs,
Tuesday: Chest
Wednesday Back/Shoulders
Thursday: Boot Camp
Friday: Biceps/Triceps
Saturday: Hiking some mountains, playing basketball, -this is an active rest
day
Sunday- Either hitting Legs again or sprints in the Phoenix sunshine
Where
does your motivation come from?
My personal health is all the real motivation I need, it keeps me motivated to eat clean day in and day out, I really strive to live the healthiest-happiest life possible. When I train I have an internal drive to be the absolute best I can be day in and day out, I am also fortunate enough to have great training partners who push me constantly. I will also pop in "Pumping Iron" from time to time and watch Arnold in his prime- it seems to get me extra jacked up to go train!
What type of cardio do you do?
I don’t do traditional cardio – I enjoy hiking the mountains here in the
Valley, playing basketball, and running through our boot camps here –which
are very aerobic heavy. I also like going out and just blasting through some
sprints 1-2 per week. I approach my cardio with the mind-set of, it’s
necessary evil for overall heart health, so make it as fun as possible while
doing it.
How
about Supplements?
I take all the basic supplements a multivitamin, fish oil, glucosamine, melatonin, ZMA, as well as vitamin C. I also take Prolab’s Whey Protein, BCAA’s Plus, Beta Alanine, as well as their Glutamine and Creatine pre and post workout. I like to take a few shots of espresso and Prolab Rapid Fire to get me going before workouts as well, it’s gets me energized and helps with some amazing pumps.
What is your 1# tip for getting ABS?
Nutrition – get your diet and nutrition plan in order, you can NOT out run
or out train a poor diet. It all comes down to body fat, you can do hanging
leg raises, planks and every abs exercise in between but if your body fat is
too high – you will never see that six pack shine through. Understand what
macro nutrients you are putting into your body and always think abs are made
in the kitchen not in the weight room and you should be well on your way to
those rock hard abs you always wanted!
